ImagiNations
The SMARTer Kids Foundation is now accepting applications for ImagiNations 2004-2005.
What is ImagiNations?
ImagiNations is an international collaborative learning program for elementary/primary school students. The program promotes cross-cultural experiences through the travels of a teddy bear that collects information and memorabilia to share with students at each stop of his journey.
Learning is an active process, and by involving students around the world in ImagiNations, doors are opened for learners to actively engage with their peers, examine similarities and differences, and become more knowledgeable, empathetic and respectful of others. Becoming involved in ImagiNations ensures that curriculum objectives come alive as students around the world communicate and connect with each other.
How does ImagiNations work?
From March 1 August 15, 2004, the SMARTer Kids Foundation will accept applications for the ImagiNations program. Applications can be found online at www.smarterkids.org/imaginations.
To be eligible for participation, the applying teacher must teach students 4-12 years old, be able to correspond in English and must find value in students making connections with other students around the globe.
The ImagiNations program manager selects 200 interested schools. Applicants will then be placed into 25 groups of eight geographically diverse schools (i.e., one school from Canada, one from the U.S, one from the UK, etc.).
The Foundation has partnered with TY and Federal Express to create a program that promotes a motivating and collaborative learning environment and assists in building awareness of cultural differences.
