Posts: 9 (Fri, Apr 10, 2009 22:29) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi all, I was recently asked by a private Uni in Stuttgart if I had a TOEIC teacher cert, since they were looking for someone with said qualification. I've done a bit of on-line searching (which is NOT one of my strengths) but can't seem to find out anything about what I'm looking for. Is there such a thing and, if so, how does one go about getting it and, of course, how much does it cost? Thanks.

TOEIC is run by an organisation called ETS. Their website doesn't mention or include any links to certificates for teachers of TOEIC. TOEIC is a test for students of English, not a qualification for teachers. If a school wants to offer the TOEIC test they can... and they can also opt to become an 'ETS preferred vendor' for a fee, but again nothing is mentioned about the teachers at that school needing to be qualified TOEIC teachers or testers. It seems as if a school rather than a teacher can opt in to running the TOEIC test. I recently had to prepare a manager for the TOEIC test and none of the training managers at a very large multinational company wanted to know whether I had a TOEIC teaching qualification or not. Apparently, you cannot fail a TOEIC test, but the manager I was teaching/preparing for the test had been told he had to get at least 80% in the test to be considered for a post as a senior executive. Fortunately, he passed... I don't know who is more relieved, but I know who is now a lot better off.

I looked at ETS' website, too, but couldn't find anything either. I've written their office here in Berlin but, of course, won't get a response before Tuesday at the earliest. Posts: 14 (Fri, Apr 17, 2009 14:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I am a "Certified TOEIC Examiner" (as they call it), which simply means that I can supervise test sessions in-company and at schools/test centers. For some schools, it is a marketing gag as they sell it as an "exra pedagogical qualification", which it is by no means. Any title potential clients don't have a clue about seems to appeal to them (it's the same with DIN ISO 9001 and other mysteries). When a school asks for such a "certification", they just want to make money with it by giving you 30 Euros for a two-hour test session with 20 candidates, yet cashing in 2,000.
